Mainframe for the Desktop
I note this growing trend to create virtual desktops. ( which I call Mainframe for the Desktop )
Hudson
Suncorp
Generally seen as a positive move. The opinions come from people too young to remember when desktops didn't exist and centralised computing was the norm.
I lived through the transition away from centralised computing to a "departmental" computing model ( which what it was called back in the day )
The reality was it was not driven by technology. It was driven by people wanting to control their own computing resources. There was a universal dislike for the centralised model because it never fully delivered.
The reality is that there is never enough centralised resources to meet the demand and in a shared environment we all get a smaller piece of the pie.
This model will never work....
